A large sink hole had developed beneath Well No. 1 pumphouse in Coldstream. The Owner, North Okanagan Regional District called on Team Foundation Systems Ltd. to install (12) twelve SS5 1 1/2" shaft, A.B. Chance Pulldown Micro Piles® with 6-8-10 and 8-10-12 in. diameter helix configurations to support the pump house structure. The simple and practical installation procedure using the Pulldown Micro Piles® was a selling feature given the high pressure water services exiting the building in various locations. Using a Kubota KX91 compact excavator with hydraulic drive head attachment, piles were installed between 15 and 80 ft. deep. A cementitious grout column, 6" in diameter was pulled down with the pile as it was being installed. The design working load of 6.5 kips was easily achieved. Once torque capacities were achieved, the pile was terminated and a Chance 40K foundation bracket was installed. Upon completion of the piling, a low strength, lightweight concrete grout was pressure pumped beneath the foundation to fill the void created by the sink hole.
